O terror “Obsessão”, escrito e dirigido por Curry Barker, acaba de atingir um marco histórico nas bilheterias mundiais. Com mais de US$403 milhões arrecadados globalmente, o longa se tornou o filme de maior bilheteria de todos os tempos entre as produções realizadas com um orçamento inferior a US$1 milhão.

Produzido com um investimento estimado entre US$750 mil e US$1 milhão, o filme também conquistou o posto de maior bilheteria de um longa live-action original da década de 2020, superando “Pecadores”, que encerrou sua trajetória nos cinemas com cerca de US$370 milhões em arrecadação mundial.
O sucesso financeiro impressiona. Considerando o orçamento máximo estimado, “Obsessão” arrecadou mais de 400 vezes o valor investido na produção. Se levado em conta o custo mínimo de US$750 mil, o retorno ultrapassa 530 vezes o investimento inicial.
Na trama, um jovem romântico decide quebrar um misterioso objeto capaz de realizar um único desejo para conquistar a garota por quem é apaixonado. Embora o pedido seja atendido, ele logo descobre que interferir em forças desconhecidas traz consequências perigosas e aterrorizantes.
O elenco reúne Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless e o comediante Andy Richter.
Além do desempenho nas bilheterias, “Obsessão” também recebeu elogios da crítica especializada. O filme foi exibido em festivais como o Festival Internacional de Cinema de Toronto (TIFF), Fantastic Fest e Sitges, onde conquistou o Prêmio do Público. No site Rotten Tomatoes, a produção mantém 94% de aprovação entre os críticos.
