Neste domingo (8), o palco do Lincoln Center, em Nova York, recebeu a 78° edição do Tony Awards. Apresentado por Cynthia Erivo, uniu emoção e espetáculo característicos da Broadway.
A atriz e cantora abriu a noite com um número original, “Sometimes All You Need Is a Song”, ao lado do coral Broadway Inspirational Voices e contou “com reforço” de Kristin Chenoweth, Aaron Tveit e Adam Lambert diretamente da plateia. Erivo ainda protagonizou o encerramento com “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going”, de Dreamgirls, e foi recebida com entusiasmo pela plateia.

Os principais prêmios foram dominados por três produções que se destacaram ao longo da temporada: Maybe Happy Ending, Buena Vista Social Club e Sunset Boulevard.
O ator Darren Criss foi premiado como Melhor Ator, por seu trabalho em “Maybe Happy Ending” e Nicole Scherzinger levou a estatueta de Melhor Atriz, desbancando a recordista Audra McDonald, que buscava seu sétimo Tony por sua performance em “Gypsy“.
